“I want to let people know that they need to do both the cover letter and resume if they want the results. Thank you for helping me get the results I needed.” – FE
Having been a hiring manager at multiple companies, I can tell you from personal experience I simply would not read any resumes from candidates that did not include a cover letter.
Because I requested they send a cover letter with a resume in the job advertisement!
What if I hadn't requested? I still wouldn't read resumes without cover letters! Drafting a persuasive cover letter is a way to write directly to a recruiter or hiring manager. It lets the recruiter or hiring manager know you sincerely want the job.
Now, that's me. There is also a small percentage of recruiters and hiring managers that don't read cover letters, period. But here's the deal: why chance it?
Every job seekers should assume a recruiter will read their cover letter first, followed by the resume. And if the cover letter is less than A+ quality, there's a significant likelihood they won't read your resume. Employers want to interview the best of the best.
If this is the first page you are visiting on my site, below, please find information on my writing process. If you've already reviewed my resume page, the below is a repeat of what I described on that page. Regardless, let's setup a free consultation so I can help you.
If this is a standout alone order, requiring only a cover letter purchase, especially a RUSH, please contact me asap.
My difference is results. You can review client testimonials (below) and on my Google, Yelp, or LinkedIn pages. Want to talk to any of my clients? Contact me at 858-531-7128 or via email and I am happy to put you in touch.
MY UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE
Unlike a lot of my competitors, I’m not just a writer. Sure, I write resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, LinkedIn profiles and more. Yet at its core, I'm first and foremost an accomplished career marketing expert – because a resume (and everything associated with your job search) is marketing. So before any writing begins, there must be a realistic marketing strategy because if the telephone isn’t ringing requesting interviews, that’s unsuccessful marketing, which is not why you hired me! I am also a great storyteller. I capture the readers attention within the first 10 to 30 seconds so the reader feels too guilty not to call you for an interview!
MY FOUR-STEP WRITING PROCESS AND HOW WE'LL WORK TOGETHER
Step 1 – Setting up Free Telephone Consultation
I work by telephone appointment. You can pick a specific day and time best for you based on my calendar.
Alternatively, you may call me anytime at 858-531-7128 or email me: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. If not using the calendar, please let me know some specific day/time windows good for you. I am based in San Diego. If you are currently working and would like to speak before or after business hours, or on weekends, I am happy to accommodate. Just let me know.
In advance of the consultation, if you have an existing resume and/or LinkedIn profile, please email to me. If you don’t, that’s ok, too. You may also email me some links to jobs that are of interest to you.
Step 2 – Discussion During Free Telephone Consultation
During the consultation, I’ll be able to learn more about goals and you can ask me any questions you have. Once we’ve determined the services you need, I’ll provide you with a price quote and a timetable for completion. My rates are considered moderate compared to my competitors (feel free to read my reviews that attest to this). This quote will include all editing and telephone and email communications until you are satisfied with the final documents.
Most orders can be completed with three to five business days, or less. If you require RUSH service, please let me know asap.
Step 3 – Getting to work: Strategy and Content Collection Call
Prior to writing, we’ll schedule a telephone appointment and have a strategy session. This is a vitally important step that separates me from a lot of other writers (many of whom are not career coaches).
You will find many writers don't offer telephone service whatsoever and instead have you "fill out a form" to collect content. This is counter-productive. Aren't they supposed to be working for you? I offer personalized service. I’ll collect the content I need to achieve your goals and write the initial draft.
Step 4 – Review
We’ll discuss the initial draft within 24 to 48 hours of our strategy call.
In virtually all cases, most clients have minor edits during this call, so the remainder of the service can be completed without scheduling another phone call. However, if more calls are required, that's no problem.
COVER LETTER WRITING TESTIMONIALS
“I just want to say that I believed it was YOUR version of my resume and cover letter, Joe C, that got me the job...those were the docs they had in front of them at the time of the interview. Brief resume, but to the point; brief letter of interest, but to the point.” – AM (previously was long-term unemployed for more than five years)
"I hired Joe to write my resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile. He was very professional and answered all my questions during multiple phone calls. He provided me guidance on transitioning out of the military and finding employment in the private sector. I highly recommend his services." – RS
"I hired Joe to help write my resume and cover letter. He did a great job. I was able to get better interviews with a better resume and cover letter. My friend also hired him for resume writing and he also got several interviews too, one of which landed him a job within 30 days. Joe gets the resume done quickly and his prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended!" – BM
"Joe has always provided me with excellent straight-up career advice I can count on. He really knows his stuff. I've taken his classes and also hired him to write my resume and cover letter, and whenever I follow up with him, he's very responsive. Joe really enjoys what he does and he's focused on helping job seekers be successful. So sometimes he doesn't tell you what you want to hear, but rather what you really need to hear because his advice is all about helping you. The skills he teaches are really invaluable. Definitely recommend his services. Thanks Joe!" – GC
"I met Joe at a career fair and was impressed how much time he spent with all of the people waiting in line providing FREE advice regarding their resume. This was a good indication of how much he cared about what he does and his reputation in the marketplace. Well I decided to give him a shot and try out his resume and cover letter services. He did not disappoint! It was a consultative process where he "interviewed" me about my former jobs, then used his experience to customize my resume. It worked, and I increased my interview percentage within weeks of submitting them to employers. Recommended him to a few of my friends who were laid off when I did." – DM
